A group’s global milestones

2011
Canam acoustic deck was delivered in Mali, Western Africa, for the expansion and modernization of the Bamako-Sénou International Airport.

Canam Asia, a firm 35% owned by Canam Group, fabricated 602,775 square feet (56,000 square meters) of P-2403 and P-2431 Canam steel deck at its Ra’s Al-Khaymah (R. A. K.) plant used in the Doha Convention Center and Tower construction project.

The Canam International team was solicited to supply design-assist services for the installation of a wood chip conveyor system at the Port of Dalhousie in New Brunswick.

2010
The Canam International team installed new equipment at the Canam Asia Limited plant located in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) in the United Arab Emirates for the production of new types of steel deck profiles.

Canam Asia fabricated more than 350 tons of steel deck and Canam and Hambro joists at its RAK facility for the headquarters of the Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

United Steel Structures Limited (USSL), a Chinese firm 49% owned by Canam Group, participated in a dozen of industrial projects requiring over 10,000 tons.

2009
Zamil Steel Buildings Vietnam Co. Ltd., located near Ho Chi Minh City, completes its first pre-engineered building project. The 86,000-square-foot (8,000 m2) warehouse was built for Toll Logistics, a company based in Singapore.

The Brasov Business Park project is awarded a Steel Design Award by the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) at the 2009 European Steel Design Awards that took place in Barcelona.

Phase 1 of the Brasov Business Park, which comprised the erection of two office towers, is completed in September. This multifunctional complex will cover a total area of 667,000 square feet (62,000 m2) and feature four office towers, a conference and exhibition facility, a fitness center and several restaurants.

In June, Canam Russia repurchases the 35% interest held by Steel Plus Limited and changes the company’s name to KMA Metall Limited. The plant, which is located in Stary Oskol, Russia, continues to manufacture and market Canam products under the terms of a technology transfer agreement that extends until 2019.

2008
Canam Russia lands many contracts in several regions south of Moscow. Major projects include a construction materials warehouse in the Lipetsk region and a brick manufacturing plant in Mtsenk in the Oreal region.

Canam Asia executes several projects in the Persian Gulf, including the Royal Opera House in Oman, a petrochemical plant located north of Jeddah, and aircraft hangars for the Jeddah and Ryadh airports in Saudi Arabia.

Zamil Steel Industries opens a new plant that will fabricate both standard and Hambro joists in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The plant has an annual production capacity of 12,000 tons.

USSL wraps up major contracts, including two projects totaling 28,000 tons for an oil company in Ras Laffan, Qatar, and Port Arthur, Texas, as well as a project for 14,000 tons in Trimble County, Kentucky.

In Mexico, Canam Romsa completes many large scale projects, including two commercial buildings in Mérida in the Yucatán Peninsula: the 386,400-square-foot (35,900 m˛) Centro commercial Sendero Mérida and the 82,900-square-foot (7,700 m˛) Cinepolis Mérida.

2007
Canam Russia completes work on a number of projects in the Belgorod region, including the Bykovo warehouse built near the Moscow airport.

Canam Asia completes work on many projects in a number of Persian Gulf states, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Collaboration continues with Zamil Steel Industries to open a new plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, dedicated to the production of Canam joists and the Hambro floor system. The new plant will have an annual production capacity of 12,000 tons and serve the Asian market. Production is set to begin in the fall of 2008.

On May 30, 2007, Canam Group completes the acquisition of a 49 percent interest in United Steel Structures Limited. (USSL), a Chinese company that operates a bridge and heavy structural steel fabrication plant in Guangzhou, China. This plant has an annual production capacity of 40,000 tons.

In January, Canam Asia starts operations in Ra’s Al Kayman in the United Arab Emirates. This is Canam Asia’s second joist, open web truss and steel deck production facility, the other being in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The Ra’s Al Kaymah plant has an annual production capacity of 24,000 tons.

2006
In July, Canam Russia and its Russian partner, KMAproeyektghilstroy, begin fabricating joist and structural steel components at a plant in Stary Oskol, which is located 310 miles (500 km) south of Moscow. The plant has an annual production capacity of 18,000 tons.

Canam International acquires a 34 percent ownership interest in Canam S.A., which operates a joist plant in Niort, France. The plant has an annual production capacity of 25,000 tons.

Canam International acquires a 35 percent stake in Canam Asia, which operates a steel joist plant with a capacity of 12,000 tons in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

Canam International concludes an agreement with a Russian partner, KMAproeyektghilstroy, to acquire a 35 percent ownership interest in Canam Russia.

Canam International now heads Canam Steel Romania’s construction operations.

The Canam International business unit is officially created on January 1, 2006.
